Sunday, July 6th was our
fi rst picnic of the year and the weather could not have been hotter! About
180 people gathered at Wildwood Park in Mississauga, which made this our most
successful picnic ever. During the day the adults were busy chatting and barbequing
away, while all the children were invited to participate in various activities
planned out by the MGM committee, such as sack race, ‘twist and turn’
and the popular tug-of-war. Water fi ghts were happening everywhere, to cool
off from the hot, sticky weather. MGM was also on hand to welcome the many visitors
from near and far who came to join us at our annual picnic. The evening then
ended perfectly with a full khichadi and tomato chutney dinner. Our MGM community
was so generous in donating funds for our mandal, which concluded in amazing
results! Please refer to the Treasurer’s Report for more information.
Parmanandabhai Vallabh proposed an excellent idea, in the spirit of fundraising,
by suggesting that in lieu of the FREE park entrance, members may wish to donate
$5 to the samaj. The response was tremendous. Thank you Parmanandabhai and everyone
for supporting MGM generously!
The weather was much bearable for
our second picnic, which was also held at Wildwood Park in Mississauga on Sunday,
August 10th. Approximately 160 people came out to join in all the festivities.
The children were busy all day in the jumping castle, which was funded from
the generous donations from the fi rst picnic. Many got to relax during the
day from barbequing since a full vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal was cooked
and provided onsite. The cooperation and help from all ladies was greatly appreciated!
The East African Association picnic was also held at the same park. Mr. Narendrabhai
Panchal, president of EAA, took the time to visit us and brought a gift of their
very own, cooked-on-site mogho and channa – what a treat! It was enjoyed
by all. Our President, Mrs. Anupama Parmar too, took the opportunity to visit
the EAA picnic and greated warmly by their members. Mr Hiteshbhai Zhaveri who
has recently set up business in Canada (from India) presented some his merchandise
of jewellery and murtis, and kindly offered to donate 5% of his sales that day
to MGM. We thank him for his generosity and wish him success with his new venture.Along
with that, many adults were participating in various sports throughout the day,
ending it all with a very long and competitive volleyball game while the picnic
was clearing out. Everybody had a great time and a great workout! See you all
at next year’s picnic!
