Rangoli - Diwali 2005

The MGM committee wants to bring wishes of colour, peace and prosperity into your coming year by celebrating Diwali with the theme of Rangoli! The annual MGM Diwali Program will be held on November 5 at Sagan Banquet hall, complete with dinner, dance, cultural show and for the first time, a Rangoli display!

During Diwali, Rangolis are combined with diyas to please and welcome Lakshmi Mata, the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. Rangolis are colourful patterns outlined using powdered limestone or chalk and filled with coloured powders, grains or flower petals. These decorative pieces of art are traditionally drawn on the floor at the entrance of a house as a ritual to ward off evil spirits and appease the deities.

This year’s event promises to be a fun-filled evening full of food, family, friends, laughing, mingling and dancing! To make things even more interesting, this year, we will be having a Rangoli display! Make your Rangoli at home and bring it to the Diwali program to be put on display for everyone to see.
